Problem Definition

A company dedicated to the online retail industry wants to achieve a better user experience on its e-commerce platform since the following problem was detected from a survey carried out on the target market:

  • Buyers of e-commerce platforms repeatedly find it difficult to accurately describe the product they are looking for and spend a great deal of time and effort researching the product name.
    In some particular cases, they cannot find the product they are looking for and give up on the purchase they were going to make in the first place.

Objective

The company wanted to:

  • Improve the experience of buyer users in searches through the platform with a tool that visually identifies the products marketed and relates them to the photos entered by buyer users.

Proposed Solution

  • We worked in tandem with the company to carry out business and technical evaluations with the aim of identifying the best solution for implementing said functionality on its platform.
  • After some meetings, we agreed to implement an image search engine based on examples with Keras and TensorFlow. This would receive as input a product image file uploaded by the user and proceed to search for images of similar products (color, style, design) available on the platform. As a final step, the user is redirected to a web page with the obtained results of similar products. In this way, innovative functionality is offered on the platform, giving the company a significant competitive advantage in the market.
  • We still continue with the advice and collabotarion on issues related to data management, promoting the commercial development of the company.
