We know that Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) š¤ is rapidly transforming the business landscape. At Tekne, we set out to find information, collect and analyze application cases š to put together a practical guide to help you implement GenAI in your organization.
The idea is that you can use it as a template š for your projects:
1ļøā£ Evaluate and plan strategically. This is the first thing you have to do, since projects must be embedded in the business and integrated as an asset to be successful.
1.1 Analyze digital technological and data maturity. Where do I stand?
You can use matrices to gather information about where you stand, your mindset and the state of the art. As a reference, here are the most well-known ones from Gartner:
- Level 1: Initial
- Level 2: Development
- Level 3: Defined
- Level 4: Managed
- Level 5: Optimized
1.2 Identify the use cases. I have many projects in mindā¦
For them you can use a prioritization matrix:
1.3 I defined the KPIs. What do I want to achieve?
Establish SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-bound) metrics for each selected use case.
2ļøā£ Prepare the infrastructure. Now for the technological part!
2.1 Evaluate data architecture
Gather information about how data is managed in your company, what platforms they use, whether or not they have data governance, etc. You can use matrices and architecture diagrams to help you.
2.2 Select the platforms and tools
Consider different options, and more commonly used ones such as:
- OpenAI API
- Google Cloud AI – Vertex
- Azure AI Services
- AWS AI Services – Bedrock
Evaluate based on your own tech mindset, price, use cases, support. You can create a scoring matrix.
2.3 Solve integration with existing systems. Evaluate potential hazards
Create a first architecture diagram using tools like draw.io or whatever you use to visualize the integration.
3ļøā£ Develop internal capabilities. You can either outsource the project, or do both: outsource while developing your own capabilities.
3.1 Form the team
Implement an AI training program using platforms like Udemy, DataCamp, or whatever suits you.
3.2 Create an AI Center of Excellence
You can set up a center of excellence, or if you already have a data center, create a unit.
4ļøā£ Implement the pilot. Little by little and then scale up
4.1 Select the project
Based on the use case you prioritized in the previous steps.
4.2 Develop and implement. Let’s get to work!!!
Follow the Agile methodology, using 2-4 week sprints and tools like Jira, Trello or whatever you use to manage the project.
4.3 Monitor and evaluate. Test not only technologically but against the business.
Implement a KPI dashboard using tools like Power BI, Tableau or your favorite viz tool.
5ļøā£ Scale and optimize. Go all out, the sky is the limit.
5.1 Analyze the results of the pilot. Based on the results of the evaluation
Use the SWOT framework to evaluate:
- Strengths
- Weaknesses
- Opportunities
- Threats
And everything went ok, we move forward!
5.2 Scaling plan. Implementing generative AI in earnest.
Develop a project roadmap, you can use Figma or ProductPlan, align your development team, or work hand in hand with your implementation partner.
5.3 Continuous improvement. Don’t forget to ALWAYS keep innovating!
You can implement a PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle for continuous optimization.
6ļøā£ We leave you with some final recommendations
- Iterative approach ā Start with small, scalable projects. Early success will build momentum and organizational support.
- Data culture ā Foster a culture of data and experimentation.
- Cross-departmental collaboration ā Ensure that GenAI implementation is a collaborative effort involving IT, business, and other relevant areas.
- Security and privacy ā Consider data security and privacy in all GenAI implementations.
- Continuous measurement ā āāEstablish a robust measurement and tracking system to constantly assess the impact of GenAI on your organization.
