We recently had the opportunity to take a trip to Silicon Valley – together with the Argentine Insurtech Chamber – the epicenter of global technological innovation. During our stay, we visited some of the most iconic and influential companies in the sector, such as Oracle, Google, Amazon, Salesforce and Anthropic. In addition, we toured the prestigious Stanford University and participated in talks and workshops on innovation, design thinking and artificial intelligence. In this note, we want to share our experiences and the main learnings we took away from this incredible trip.
The city of innovation
Our first impression upon arriving in San Francisco and Silicon Valley was that of being in a unique place, with a technological air that can be breathed in every corner. The city is very orderly and clean, with modern architecture that coexists harmoniously with historical elements such as the famous tram. Palo Alto, home to many startups and technology companies, is a clear example of how innovation has shaped the urban landscape.

Visits to technological giants
During our trip, we had the opportunity to visit some of the most important companies in the world:
💡 Oracle –
They presented us with their own cloud strategy, with a strong emphasis on security and the development of their own artificial intelligence model.
💡 Google –
We took a guided tour of their impressive facilities, where we could see up close how they encourage innovation and teamwork. Google has a very particular approach to stimulating the creativity of its employees.
💡 Amazon –
We learned about the different services that Amazon offers aimed at the insurance sector, from infrastructure to high-level services. They also told us about their AI models, such as Amazon Titan, and their own internally developed chips.
💡 Salesforce and Globant –
At Salesforce, they showed us their powerful ecosystem and a specific product for the insurance sector. Together with Globant, they gave a talk about how they are implementing AI in companies.

The cradle of talent: Stanford University
Visiting Stanford University was an unforgettable experience. The campus is huge, very well maintained and with an atmosphere that inspires knowledge and innovation. We were surprised by the collaboration model between the university, the private sector and the state to promote the incubation of startups. Students have the possibility of starting a business from a very young age, with the support of the university and companies in the area.
Learning from the best
We participate in various talks and workshops on key topics such as innovation, design thinking and AI. Some of the main learnings were:
💥 The importance of thinking “outside the box” and not being afraid to make mistakes. Making mistakes quickly and learning from mistakes is a fundamental part of the innovation process.
💥 Learn from children, who are not afraid to try new ways of doing things.
💥 The rise of generative AI and the need to start using it in our companies. Tools like Perplexity, Claude and ChatGPT are key in this regard.
💥 Concern about the future of work given the advance of AI and the importance of regulation in this field. A phrase that stuck with us: “USA innovates, Europe regulates.”
Accelerating startups with Plug and Play
Our visit to Plug and Play, a startup accelerator, allowed us to learn up close how the entrepreneurial ecosystem works in Silicon Valley. We witnessed pitches from companies focused on AI applied to different insurance processes, such as underwriting and claims. We also received recommendations to innovate in Latin America, such as designing products based on AI and using language models such as GPT, Claude and Perplexity.
The future is now: Anthropic and ethical AI
Learning about Anthropic, one of the leading companies in ethical AI, was an eye-opening experience. They told us their story, how they separated from OpenAI and received investment from giants like Amazon and Google. Its approach is based on developing AI responsibly and with a strong ethical component. They presented their three main models (Opus, Sonnet and Haiku) and gave us recommendations on how to use them through Amazon APIs.

Learnings and reflections
This trip to Silicon Valley left us with countless learnings and reflections on the present and future of technology and innovation:
🤖 Generative AI is here to stay and transform all industries. It is crucial that we begin to adopt it now in our companies and processes.
🤖 Although Silicon Valley is a unique focus of innovation in the world, Latin American talent has enormous potential. With the right training and resources, we can create innovative, world-class products.
🤖 The future of work generates concern, but there is also a lot of optimism about the opportunities that AI will bring. The key is to continue learning, experimenting and adapting to changes.
🤖 For the insurance and insurtech sector, the modernization and adoption of AI and automation is urgent. Companies that do not ride this wave of innovation risk becoming obsolete.
And how can we apply all these learnings in our companies?
This question left us thinking a lot but we recommend:
👍 Foster a culture of innovation and experimentation
- Promote taking calculated risks and accepting failure as part of the learning and innovation process.
- Give employees space and resources to explore new ideas, even if some fail.
- Celebrate and reward creativity, initiative and attempts to innovate, not just successes.
👍 Boost collaboration and exchange of ideas
- Create open and collaborative work spaces that encourage interaction between employees from different areas.
- Organize events, talks and workshops to share knowledge and generate new ideas together.
- Take advantage of the diversity of profiles, cultures and experiences of the team to enrich innovation.
👍 Focus on solving real customer problems
- Put the client at the center and seek to deeply understand their needs and “pains”.
- Validate and test new products/services directly with real users as soon as possible.
- Iterate and improve based on feedback, measuring the impact on business metrics.
👍 Collaborate with startups and the entrepreneurial ecosystem
- Explore collaboration models with startups to develop new solutions in an agile way.
- Actively participate in the local entrepreneurial ecosystem – events, networks, mentoring, etc.
- Evaluate investing in strategically aligned startups, as big technology companies do.
👍 Lead with an inspiring and long-term vision
- Define and clearly communicate the purpose and vision that guides innovation efforts.
- Lead by example the importance of questioning the status quo and daring to do things differently.
- Protect innovation teams from short-term pressures and give them an adequate time horizon.
To conclude, our trip to Silicon Valley was a transformative experience that opened our eyes to the infinite possibilities of technological innovation. We return home with an open mind, full of ideas and with the firm conviction that the future is exciting and it is in our hands to build it.
At Tekne Data Labs, we are committed to leading this data and AI revolution, accompanying our clients on their path to digital transformation.
